Understanding the aging process and learning to own our roles as Elders requires us to use all of our senses. This class “focuses” (pun intended!) on using the inner eye, our intuition/wisdom to connect the mind, body and spirit through the medium of photography.
In each class session, we will explore a Sage-ing® theme or concept, devoting class time to journaling, reading and discussion. Finally, you will learn how to use the camera to photograph the metaphor that best resonates with a personal connection to the theme. Participants will be guided in basic smart phone camera concepts - no prior experience is necessary.
Class members will photograph at any time during the week between class sessions and email their images to Betty. In the following session the images will be analyzed by the photographer and by classmates, as we consider:
...and many more questions that will arise as the learning deepens.
Session Topics will include:
Recognition - of body/mind/spirit as part of the aging process
Surrender - to changes in body/mind/spirit in the aging process
Forgiveness - of self and others in the aging process
Relationship - with oneself, with others, and with Divinity in the aging process
Wisdom – acknowledging one’s gifts, sharing gifts, serenity and facing mortality
No class on 11/23 - Thanksgiving break

Vatikah Betty Adler just celebrated her 70th birthday and is gratefully enjoying being an elder to her family and community! Born in Quito Ecuador and raised in Shawnee Mission KS, Betty has been an activist in politics, an engaged lay leader and volunteer in her Synagogues and owner/operater of The Kid's Place Early Learning Centers - 7 preschools - in the metro DC area for 20 years. Betty re-invented herself by studying and working with Connie Reider (z”l), becoming a photographer and establishing her own photography business. She continued to work with Connie as she developed INscape - The Healing Art of Photography, assisting in retreats, workshops, book development, and technology. In her seventh decade, she learned pruning/gardening techniques and worked for a woman-run pruning company, recovered from a major accident and is now back to dancing, enjoying six grandkids, lots of family time in Israel and Ecuador, friends, and traveling. Betty and her husband hit their 40th wedding anniversary in May!
